I've been told I need to eat more "alkaline" foods. Can you give me some examples please?
Fresh fruit, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and legumes , carbohydrate-rich starch foods like rice, grains and potatoes.
Avoid grains, dairy, meat and excess salt.
But again, it is in your best interests that you talk to your doctor and a dietician about alkaline foods before embarking on this diet.
what is that green drink that Addison drinks on Private Practice?
it’s a mixture in a blender and she drinks it almost every episode… does anyone know what on earth it actually is??
Wheatgrass
I get 10-15 "colds" a year. I'm very health conscious, but I'm worried that I'm doing something wrong.
I exercise, don't smoke and have cut sugar, white flour and processed foods out of my diet. I eat mainly organic, and have an excellent acid/alkaline balance. I take a multivitamin as well as omega-3 supplements.
And yet, I get colds all the time. Anytime "it's going around" I'm the first to get it. Sometimes they linger (at a low level) and I never fully recover for months.
I have been like this all my life. What can I do? Does this mean that I more susceptible to dangerous diseases?
It's hard to do anything to stop colds from catching you…you seem to take care of yourself and exercise. but I found this reply in a similar question. (hope it helps-it couldn't hurt)

What is the pH balance of my swimming pool significant?
What exactly does it have to do with the cleanliness of the pool? Preventing growth?
It's for several reasons: one being when the pH is too low, the water will be corrosive (towards equipment, mostly). When the pH is too high, it can cause scale deposits.
Also, chlorine is more effective over a narrow range of pH. As the pH rises above 7.8, the chlorine effectiveness drops dramatically. So, you would have to use a lot more chlorine at higher pH levels to accomplish the same job of disinfecting and sanitizing the water. When your chlorine is more effective, it'll obviously help prevent algae growth more effectively.
At pH levels below 7.2, the trade-off with swimmer irritation and corrosive water isn't worth the extra percentage of the chlorine that's effective. The best range is 7.4 – 7.6
What is your favorite natural health food store in the mid-michigan area?
I am looking for a store(s) that is medium sized, has good selection and prices are competitive to other health food stores. Foods for Living and Better Health stores are two I am familiar with already. W.F.M. is large although I am not sure about visiting after reading some articles concerning store policies and management. Thanks for the suggestions and comments.
